Installing Wireless router on Sify

in Router

have a Sify Broadband connection. I am trying to install wifi router Netgear WGR614 at my home. Since Sify requires authentication through their own dial up software and also gives static IP address, I have been unable to do so.

I tried changing the settings of Netgear and when I connect my laptop via router, I was able to authenticate the connection and get on the internet. However, as soon as I switch to wireless mode, the system is unable to authenticate and it says that the machine address as registered is different from the one I am trying to authenticate. i tried changing the settings in Netgear to use computers MAC adddress and it worked fine in wired mode but not in wireless. Can anyone who has set up wifi with a single laptop at home for Sify provide any clue.

Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.the only issue I have is in authentication with the registered MAC address. If I get it changed at Sify's end, then the problem could be solved but in such case, it will not be possible to authenticate my laptop directly in wired mode. And I have only one machine i.e. the laptop for internet access. I shall try re installing the software from Sify and see if it works.

thanls a lot for the reply.called up the Sify customer care and told them that I will be using 2 machines for accessing the internet. They told me that they will open the access for new LAN card registeration and I can login after an hour. I logged in using my wireless router after an hour. I set up the Netgear router to use the default MAC address so as to register the MAC address of the router with SIFY. the first time I tried to login it gave me a different error that the username password is wrong. I re-entered my password and logged in again and since then it has been working perfectly fine.Log on in the wired mode to the Netgear router. and in settings check the box where it says that your ISP requires login...however you need to provide the static IP address as SIFY gives static ip....provide all the details including the DNS and gateway details....after this set up your wireless SSID which is pretty much as per the manual provided by netgear.after this when you turn on the wireless access of your laptop....configure the IP address of this connection manually as 192.168.1.2 3 or whatever and enter the DNS of SIFY in that Wireless connecytion....you can also obtain the ip automatically and still enter the DNS servers address here....this is very important and wwould be the probable reason for you not to connect. after this you are done...and connect to your wireless netwrok and you will be able to logon...provided sify has opened the registeration for additional MAC address.

any other specific query...do let me know here...I do keep coming back to check this forum.called up the sify CC to register the new MAC id. They asked me to connect the broadband cable to the router and tell them the message thats coming up on the pc I asked him about what message is supposed to come up and he himself was not sure. He told me that they will get some kind of an indication at their end that the new mac id is connected to my sify account and only then they can add it to my login. I'm totally lost here. Could any of you please tell me how you got your router mac id registered at sify.have a Sify Broadband connection. I am trying to install wifi router Netgear WGR614 at my home.
